A velvety blue summer sky, families sitting on blankets, and the hush of anticipation before the pyrotechnics begin—there’s no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than enjoying a spectacular fireworks display. From Aurora to Wheaton, Chicago’s western suburbs host stunning fireworks for residents to enjoy on Independence Day. Take your pick of the top fireworks shows taking place in the area. Insider tip: Be sure to note the date. Not all fireworks happen on July 4. A few towns, including Naperville, Plainfield and Wheaton, are holding their fireworks displays on July 3.

Aurora, Fourth of July Celebration

  • Location: RiverEdge Park, 360 North Broadway, Aurora
  • Date: July 4
  • Time: Fireworks start around 9:35 PM

Free park and ride shuttles to the park from 6 PM to 9 PM from 13 different locations

Park opens at 3 PM

American Legion Band plays at 6:15 PM

Fox Valley Orchestra plays at 7:45 PM

 

Batavia, 4th of July Sky Concert

  • Location: Engstrom Family Park, 326 Millview Drive, Batavia
  • Date: July 4
  • Time: Sky Concert fireworks display starts at 9:30 PM

Food vendors start serving at 5 PM

Batavia Community Band plays at 8:15 PM

 

Downers Grove, July 4th Fireworks

  • Location: 75th Street and Lemont Road, Downers Grove
  • Date: July 4
  • Time: Fireworks start around 9:30 PM

Fourth of July parade starts at 12:45 PM at Main and Grant Streets

 

Glen Ellyn, Fourth of July Celebration

  • Location: Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road, Glen Ellyn
  • Date: July 4
  • Time: Fireworks start at dusk

Fourth of July parade takes place July 4 at 12 PM at Ellyn Avenue and Crescent Boulevard

Live music, carnival games and other afternoon festivities at Lake Ellyn Park from 1 PM to 4 PM. Tickets are $3 per person

 

Naperville, Ribfest Fireworks

  • Location: Knoch Park, 724 South West Street, Naperville
  • Date: July 3
  • Time: Fireworks start at 9:30 PM

One of the largest fireworks displays in the Chicago area caps off Ribfest, which begins June 30 and is sponsored by the Exchange Club of Naperville. Twenty “ribbers” will serve up their best BBQ and compete for best ribs and best sauce.

Knoch Park is closed when it reaches capacity, so be sure to arrive early for the fireworks.

 

Plainfield, Patriotic Picnic and Fireworks

  • Location: Plainfield Central High School, 24120 Fort Beggs Road, Plainfield

Kids’ Patriotic Bike Parade starts at 6:30 PM

Park District Dance Team performs at 7 PM

Inflatables and games from 6 PM to 8:15 PM for $5 per child

 

Warrenville, 4th of July Celebration

  • Location: Cerny Park, 4S150 River Road, Warrenville
  • Date: July 4
  • Time: Fireworks start at 9:15 PM

Parades, games, kids’ activities and more take place on July 3 and July 4

 

Wheaton, Independence Day Celebration

  • Location: Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road, Wheaton
  • Date: July 3
  • Time: Fireworks start at dusk

Carnival rides, music, food vendors and more from 4 PM to 9 PM

Fourth of July parade starts on July 4 at 10 AM at Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in downtown Wheaton
