As you know, at john greene Realtor, we Live & Love Local. And we also LOVE burgers. We polled our agents to learn about their favorite local burger spots in the western suburbs and then we narrowed it down to the 5 most-voted-for. Please note, while some are temporarily closed due to the current health crisis, others are offering carry-out or curbside pickup. So check out their individual websites to learn more and stay up-to-date!

We also have some commentary from our resident “burger expert”, jgR agent Matt Metzger who took this poll VERY seriously and made sure he had taste-tested every place on the list!

Take a look at our recommendations below!

Jackson Avenue Pub – 7 Jackson Avenue | Naperville

Mentioned by nearly everyone who responded, Jackson Avenue Pub is located in the heart of downtown Naperville. They’re known for their amazing service, burgers, and craft beer selection, but also offer many other great options for salads, appetizers, and more! You won’t believe how many reviews say this is the best burger they’ve ever add! This is definitely a spot to add to your list if you have yet to visit.

Burger-Connoisseur Matt: “By far my favorite on the list. This burger has everything you come to expect in a classic burger, while still offering customization options to fit everyone. The atmosphere here gives a great vibe, and any burger on a pretzel bun gets a thumbs up from me.”

Crusade Burger Bar – 209 South Bridge Street | Yorkville

Next, we’re headed out to Yorkville for burgers with a touch of rock and roll. Crusade is known for its cool atmosphere, creative burgers/entrees, and shakes that could be considered works of art. Once restaurants open back up again, it’s not uncommon for there to be a wait, but take advantage of their carry-out in the meantime!

Burger-Connoisseur Matt: “This is the place you go when you want the glitz and glamour. Everything is over the top, especially their milkshakes. They have a solid craft burger with eclectic toppings. Don’t go expecting a burger with ‘Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun.'”

Bristol Tap – 46 S. Cannonball Trl | Bristol

Located just a few minutes outside of Oswego, this place is no-frills and the focus is the food! With a small town, VFW hall-style bar atmosphere, and a limited menu, you might overlook this one. But, our agents and tons of great reviews suggest otherwise! Things to note: This is a kid-free zone and be sure to bring cash!

Burger-Connoisseur Matt: “Great classic burger. When you think of a burger, this is what comes to mind. The burger is huge, so don’t make the mistake of ordering a double; but if you do, you will enjoy it. Perfectly seasoned and prepared, and don’t bother asking for fries, they don’t have ‘em!”

No website (we meant no-frills!), but you can reach them at (630) 553-6229.

The Lantern – 8 W. Chicago Avenue | Naperville

Another downtown Naperville gem, The Lantern is the oldest tavern downtown and has been in business for over 50 years! It offers a casual environment with friendly service, the perfect spot to watch the game (when sports are back!). Another spot where people rave about them having the best burgers, so we recommend trying them for yourself!

Burger-Connoisseur Matt: “Solid burger in the heart of Naperville. The iconic location downtown lets you step back in time and enjoy a burger and beer while watching the game. Another no frill’s burger venue, you will enjoy a classic staple of Americana without over the top add-ons.”

Your Neighbors Naperville – 931 W 75th St #173 | Naperville

This is a hidden gem located near the DMV on 75th street. Another no-frills, neighborhood bar with great burgers. Feel free to bring the kids as there is plenty of room to dine, plus it’s hailed as another great spot to watch the game.

Burger-Connoisseur Matt: “If you know, you know. If you don’t, well, get to know. Living less than 2 miles from the place and passing it nearly daily, I was unaware this place existed until this burger review was taking place. The definition of hole-in-the-wall. The place had a very standard and typical burger, with one of the freshest buns I’ve ever had at a bar. Your standard Chicagoland burger bar with great, fresh ingredients. Stop by on Monday when they open up again for $5 Malort Monday’s!”
